The chess game begins! First-year students complete their induction course and choose their class names

Starting at a new school can feel like a step into the unknown — that is exactly what our annual induction course is for! 💪 This year’s first-year students have successfully completed it, and we can confidently say that they are a fantastic group. The course was not just about getting to know each other and building friendships. It also brought their very first shared ‘project’.

They had to agree and vote on the names their classes would use at ITG for the next four years.

They decided to start a grand game of chess, and the class names are clear: 👉 MAT (checkmate) 👉 PAT (stalemate).

At first glance, it might sound like a playful idea, but chess ♟️ has a strong tradition at our school. It fits perfectly with what we teach: logical and strategic thinking, planning ahead and staying calm under pressure.

Our chess community is thriving. Some of our students are active members of ChessHouse Praha, which regularly holds chess tournaments at our school. Students from all year groups meet across the chessboard, share their strategies and build friendships beyond their own classes.

Four years to make your moves

Choosing a name is only the first move on the board. Now we wish our first-year students in MAT and PAT the most important things for their studies: play fair, make smart moves and bring your four-year game to a successful finish! 💪

Welcome to ITG, first-years!
