Could you escape from a Russian hacker? ITG's Open Day surprised visitors with an original programme

This Saturday, passers-by in Prague's Satalice district could see something unusual: a school full of people at the weekend. ITG Gymnázium was holding an Open Day with a packed programme. A group of volunteers from the students, teaching staff and school leadership organised the event.

The Open Day programme began at 10:30 a.m., although some Year 9 pupils and their parents arrived shortly before 10.

Headteacher Markéta Fibigerová gave the opening address. This was followed by a short tour and an opportunity for parents and prospective students to ask teachers and students questions. Visitors could also see the school's technical equipment and 3D printers.

Visitors then became the first members of the public to try an escape game in a unique setting. The school building served as a radio station during the First Czechoslovak Republic, and a preserved military bunker still stands on the grounds.

Fourth-year students made use of this unusual school facility. For their graduation project, they created a cybersecurity-themed escape game and transformed the bunker's interior into a Russian hacker's hideout.

Players had to escape from the hideout by finding clues, solving puzzles and cracking codes. The game also involved working with a computer and audiovisual installations.

Successful players could try a literal escape through the bunker's ventilation shaft.

The students are also preparing to use the escape game in cybersecurity seminar lessons.

The official programme ended at 1 p.m. and was followed by mock entrance examinations organised by the school. Visitors gave positive feedback on the whole event. The escape game was also well received, with participants praising its immersive setting and entertainment value.
