What if classrooms could be booked online? Our students built a unique e-ink system!

You know the situation: you need to find a free meeting room or classroom quickly, but you do not know whether a lesson will start there in five minutes. ‘What if classrooms could simply be booked online?’ 🤔

That is exactly the question our students asked — and they did not stop at theory. They got to work and built a unique system for booking classrooms and meeting rooms online. Their work is already being used in practice: the first successful installation was at our partner primary school, BE OPEN!

How exactly does the digital booking system work? 👌

The project is the work of our student team: Natka, Julius, Tomáš, Martin and Jáchym 👨‍💻👩‍💻. Together, they developed software that neatly connects a standard online calendar with modern e-ink screens.

The displays are mounted beside classroom or meeting-room doors. Whenever someone creates an event in the online calendar, the information is sent wirelessly to the display. On arrival, everyone can immediately see the current schedule, ongoing bookings and when the room will be free again.

Why does this solution hit the mark? 🤩

The technology the students chose offers several major advantages:

• ⌚ It saves time: No more confusion, knocking on doors or searching for a free room. Everything is clear at a glance.
• ⚡ It uses very little energy: E-ink technology, familiar from e-readers, consumes energy only when the display changes. Otherwise, the image stays visible without using power!
• ▫️ It works entirely online: No more rewriting paper schedules. Everything synchronises automatically through the cloud.
• 😎 It is super cool: It looks modern, clean and professional — exactly how a 21st-century school should look.
